Who We Are

The Egyptian Study Society (ESS) is an organization for people who are interested in ancient Egypt. ESS welcomes anyone with similar interests to participate in it. ESS programs include lectures, slide and video presentations, seminars, hands-on workshops and an annual picnic. Well-known Egyptologists and knowledgeable ESS members make presentations throughout the year. You can find the latest information about our current schedule on our Coming Events page.

Our society is a nonprofit educational organization based in Denver, Colorado, USA, and is an associate group of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (DMNS). Many ESS members assist the DMNS with exhibitions and projects connected with Egypt.

Membership Info

You may join the ESS at any regular meeting or you may use the membership form that is now available online. Check the Membership Info page for more details.

We have several study groups that specialize in particular aspects of ancient Egypt. Information about these activities and others is listed in our monthly publication, The Scribe's Palette. Members may submit items for publication by e-mail to the Scribe's Palette editor.

One or two times per year, we publish a research journal called The Ostracon. Authors wishing to publish in our journal should read and follow the guidelines for submitting articles. For further particulars please e-mail The Ostracon editor.

We usually meet at 7:00 PM on the third Monday of each month in Ricketson Auditorium at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver, Colorado. (Exceptions are noted on our program schedule.) Our annual picnic replaces our August meeting, and we do not meet in December. Here is a map showing the location of Ricketson Auditorium.

Contact us by e-mail for further information.
